Synopsis
Never, since Padmasambhava’s teachings of the Bardo Thodol (“Liberation by Hearing through the Bardo”), has such a descriptive and informative work on the dying process been documented. In His Holiness, Living Buddha Lian-sheng’s 163rd book, Crossing the Ocean of Life and Death, all ones questions are answered about the most vital moment in a person’s life-death.
With upmost sincerity, Living Buddha Lian-sheng has written this book to help us understand the reality of dying. After we die, our spirit enters the bardo realm, which is a place which lies between life and death. He teaches us how to prepare for our death by using the Dream Yoga, one of the Six Yogas of Naropa, a practice which is heavily emphasized in Vajrayana Buddhism. If we are able to practice dharma and control our mind in the dream state, then we are sure to be able to reach the Western Paradise, or even Buddhahood, while in the bardo realm.
In Crossing the Ocean of Life and Death, Living Buddha Lian-sheng describes his personal experiences of facing death. He documents in detail how the death experience feels, what illusions appear and how to avoid the path leading towards the six realms. Ultimately, he teaches us how to become Buddha and transcend life and death.
The bardo state is a genuine phenomenon of the universe, and has nothing to do with religions. It is my wish that sentient beings with the right affinity shall read this book thoroughly and eventually cross the ocean of life and death.
